Course modules
The work of a barber-hairdresser is about much more than technical skills. In this module, you will learn how to create a professional client experience from start to finish: how to meet the client, analyse their needs, carry out a successful consultation, and work safely and ergonomically. The module builds the foundation for working confidently, responsibly and with a client-centred approach in every service situation.
Strong technical skills begin with understanding the hair and scalp. In this module, you will learn about hair structure, different hair qualities, how products work, and the fundamentals of hair and scalp care. By understanding how hair reacts to products, treatments and external factors, you will be able to make safer and more informed choices in all barbering and hairdressing services.
Mastering the technical work of a hairdresser is built around the basic haircut structures. By understanding different haircutting terms and techniques, a hairdresser can plan the desired cut, manage the progress of the service and anticipate the final result. When the right haircut is combined with suitable styling using a blow-dryer or styling iron, the result is natural and easy for the client to maintain at home. In this module, we explore topics such as haircutting terminology, the correct handling of scissors, cutting the basic haircut structures using different hairdressing techniques, thinning the hair, styling with a blow-dryer, rollers and styling irons, as well as different basic braiding techniques.
In barber services, precision, tool control and an understanding of shape are key to a successful result. In this module, you will learn the essential techniques for cutting short hair, the safe use of clippers, scissors and razors, and the fundamentals of beard shaping. The goal is to help you create clean, balanced and client-specific results using a variety of barbering techniques.
A successful hairstyle is created through the combination of technique, shape and well-executed preparation. In this module, you will learn the fundamental hairstyling techniques, the purposeful use of products and tools, and how to control balance, shape and fastening. You will practise different hairstyle structures that allow you to apply your skills to both classic and more modern looks.
Successful hair colouring is not based on guesswork, but on understanding the starting point of the hair, colour theory and colour chemistry. In this module, you will learn the fundamentals of colour theory, how colouring products work, safe working practices, and the key colouring and highlighting techniques. The goal is to help you plan colour services with confidence, choose suitable products and techniques, and anticipate the result before beginning the service.
Texture services change the shape of the hair through chemistry, technique and precise working methods. In this module, you will learn the theory behind texture services, the reduction-oxidation reaction, the use of products and tools, and the different stages of perming. You will also explore straightening services, keratin straightening and digital perming, as well as how to assess and care for the condition of the hair before and after the treatment.
The course progresses logically from fundamentals toward more demanding service areas. Each module supports the next, so the student understands the hairdressing profession as a whole — not just as isolated techniques.

TRAINERS
Kampaamokoulu Unika has been training hairdressers for more than 20 years, and over 500 professionals have graduated from the school. The same teaching method, refined over the years, and high-standard professional training are now available in a format you can study anywhere, at any time.
Sedin has been building the Helsinki-based Q Hair salon family since 2007 — four salons and a community of dozens of stylists. In 2019 he brought Unika, a school that had been training hairdressers for twenty years, into the family, and more than a hundred new professionals have graduated under his leadership. Sedin is also known as a photographer of campaigns and collections and as a designer of television makeovers — the same visual touch runs through every video in this course.
Hanna found hairdressing through customer service work and instructor training — and knew at once that she had found her calling. Behind her are more than ten years of entrepreneurship as well as work in TV productions, photo shoots, shows and hairdressing competitions in Finland and abroad. Since 2023 she has run her own salon in Kamppi, Helsinki. You will recognise Hanna's touch from the very first videos of the course.
Kaisa-Maria is a long-standing hairdressing professional whose hands have created countless cuts, colours and makeovers. She brings the everyday reality of salon work into the training: how technique turns into fluent client work at the chair.

The book opens right in your browser next to the lesson — no separate downloads.
The UNIKA certificate confirms the successful completion of the training and its required assignments. Your assignments are assessed by an instructor, and you receive a completion document for every module you pass. The certificate's authenticity can be verified online using a unique certificate code.
The UNIKA certificate is not an official vocational qualification and does not replace the Vocational Qualification in Hair and Beauty Care. It demonstrates the knowledge and skills you gained during the training.

That provider will assess your previous learning and plan any further study and skills assessments with you.
