2. Scope and formation of the contract

These terms apply to the sale of UNIKA online course packages, extensions and practice supplies on the unika.fi website, and to the use of the learning platform. The terms apply to both consumer and business customers. The mandatory provisions of the Finnish Consumer Protection Act apply only to consumer customers.

  • Formation of the contract: the contract is formed when the customer has accepted these terms at checkout and the payment has been approved. A confirmation is sent to the email address provided by the customer.
  • Customer account: purchasing requires a customer account. The customer is responsible for the accuracy of the information they provide and for keeping their login details confidential. The login is personal and may not be passed on to anyone else.
  • Age limit: a person under 18 may purchase a course with the consent of a parent or guardian.
  • Deleting the account: the customer may request deletion of their account by email from the address registered to the account. Any valid access ends when the account is deleted, without a refund, unless section 6 provides otherwise.
  • Changes to the terms: UNIKA may change these terms. Purchases already made are governed by the terms in force at the time of purchase, unless the change is more favourable to the customer.

3. Products

UNIKA sells online course packages that include 12 months’ access to the learning platform, as well as extensions and practice supplies.

PackageContents
UNIKA CUTCRAFTModules 1, 2 and 3
UNIKA COLOURCRAFTModules 1, 2 and 6
UNIKA BARBERCRAFTModules 1, 2 and 4
UNIKA COMPLETEModules 1–7, a 140-page professional textbook and three 20-minute online meetings with a teacher
  • Service contents: instructional videos, theory lessons, tasks and quizzes, teacher-reviewed practical tasks, an AI-assisted teacher, and module certificates and a package certificate for successfully completed studies. The exact contents of each package are shown on the unika.fi website at the time of purchase.
  • Access period: 12 months. It starts at the time of purchase or on the course opening date, whichever is later.
  • Pre-purchase: a package bought before the course opens (30 November 2026) is a pre-purchase. The customer gets access to their account and the supplies shop immediately, and to the course content on the opening date.
  • Extension: the customer may buy a three-month extension for a package they own. The price is 3/12 of the package list price and is paid in one instalment.
  • Textbook: included in the COMPLETE package. Buyers of other packages can browse the chapters for the modules they have purchased on the learning platform and buy the full textbook separately.
  • Practice supplies: tools and supplies are not included in the price of the course packages. They can be bought together with the course or from the UNIKA supplies shop.
  • The certificate is not a qualification: the UNIKA certificate shows that the customer has successfully completed the course they purchased. It is not a Finnish vocational qualification or an official part of a qualification.

4. Prices, discounts and payment methods

Current prices are shown on the unika.fi website and at checkout. Prices include the applicable value added tax. VAT is determined in accordance with the legislation in force from time to time and the applicable place-of-supply rules.

The total price shown to the customer at checkout includes the course, any supplies and delivery charges, and the applicable VAT. The VAT rate is determined by the nature of the sale, the customer’s location and other applicable tax rules.

  • Discounts: the pre-sale discount, campaign offers and discount codes cannot be combined. If several discounts apply at the same time, the customer receives the largest one.
  • Pre-sale discount: valid until the announced date or until the announced number of pre-sale places has been sold, whichever comes first. The number of pre-sale places is counted on the basis of paid purchases.
  • Pricing errors: if the price of a product on the website is clearly incorrect, UNIKA may cancel the order and refund the amount paid.
  • Payment: payments are processed by Stripe over an encrypted connection. The contract is formed between the customer and UNIKA, and UNIKA is responsible for the obligations relating to the sale.
  • Payment methods: payment cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Klarna. With Klarna, a consumer can pay immediately, in 30 days or in instalments. Klarna payment methods are subject to the terms of Klarna Bank AB (publ), and Klarna makes a separate credit decision.
  • Business customers: business purchases are paid by card. The company name and VAT ID are shown on the receipt.

5. Delivery and start of access

Online course. Access opens in the customer’s account as soon as the payment has been approved. For a pre-purchase, the course content opens on the course opening date (30 November 2026). Access is valid for 12 months from the start date, and a purchased extension adds three months.

Practice supplies.

  • Supplies are normally dispatched within 1–3 working days of the order. The delivery time depends on the carrier.
  • We deliver to Finland and to the countries listed on the supplies shop pages. Delivery charges are shown at checkout before payment.
  • The customer must inspect the shipment on receipt. Any transport damage or missing items must be reported without delay to info@unika.fi.
  • If the customer does not collect the shipment and it is returned, UNIKA may charge the cost of re-sending it.
  • An order can be cancelled by email before it has been dispatched.

6. Right of withdrawal and refunds

Consumers have a 14-day right of withdrawal under the Finnish Consumer Protection Act. In addition to this, UNIKA does not offer a voluntary satisfaction guarantee. Business customers have no right of withdrawal.

Online course (service)

  • Withdrawal period: 14 days from the conclusion of the contract, i.e. from the date of purchase.
  • Start of the service: at checkout, the customer expressly requests that performance of the service begins during the withdrawal period. If the customer withdraws from the purchase after this, UNIKA may charge reasonable compensation for the part of the service performed before withdrawal (Consumer Protection Act, chapter 6, section 19).
  • Calculating the compensation: the price paid for the package is divided equally between the modules in the package.
  • A module is used when the customer has opened all of its lessons.
  • A module is started when the customer has opened at least one of its lessons. A started module is treated as half used.
  • The customer is refunded the price paid less the share of used and started modules. Usage data is based on the learning platform’s records.
  • Example: a customer has bought the CUTCRAFT package at the pre-sale price of €489.30 (3 modules, €163.10 per module). They have completed module 1 in full and started module 2. The used share is 1.5 modules, i.e. €244.65, and the customer is refunded €244.65.
  • Pre-purchase: if the customer withdraws before the course opens, no part of the service has yet been performed and the full price paid is refunded.
  • End of the right of withdrawal: if the service has been fully performed during the withdrawal period at the customer’s express request, the right of withdrawal no longer applies.
  • Access ends once the withdrawal has been confirmed.

Practice supplies

  • Withdrawal period: 14 days from the date the customer received the products.
  • The products must be unused and in their original condition. The customer is liable for any diminished value resulting from handling other than inspecting the product.
  • The customer pays the return postage unless the product is defective.
  • Partial returns of an order are possible.

How to withdraw

  • Notify us of your withdrawal by email to info@unika.fi from the email address registered to your account. You may use the attached withdrawal form or make another unequivocal statement.
  • The notification must be sent before the withdrawal period expires.
  • Contact us before returning any supplies. You will receive return instructions.

How refunds are made

  • Refunds are paid without undue delay and no later than 14 days from the withdrawal notice, using the same payment method the customer used.
  • For supplies, UNIKA may withhold the refund until the products have been received back.
  • Purchases paid with Klarna are refunded via Klarna, and Klarna adjusts the customer’s payment plan.

7. Licence, customer obligations and copyright

All materials on the learning platform belong to UNIKA or its licensors and are protected by the Finnish Copyright Act and other applicable intellectual property laws. Protected materials include, among other things, textbooks, instructional videos, theory lessons, images, graphics, tasks, exams, model answers, AI-generated feedback and the content of discussion areas.

Purchasing a course gives the customer a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable licence to use the course materials for the access period defined for the course. The licence entitles the customer to use the materials solely for completing the course in accordance with these terms.

Without the prior written permission of UNIKA or the relevant rights holder, the customer may not copy, store, share, publish, transmit, modify, resell or otherwise exploit the protected materials or any part of them beyond the scope of the licence. Disclosing the materials to third parties or using them for commercial purposes is prohibited without appropriate permission, unless mandatory law provides otherwise.

The customer may not give their login details or personal access to the learning platform to others. The customer is responsible for using the learning platform and its content in accordance with these terms.

Purchasing a course or receiving a licence to the materials does not transfer ownership, copyright or any other intellectual property rights in the materials to the customer. All rights not expressly granted to the customer in these terms are reserved by UNIKA or the relevant rights holders.

The following is prohibited:

  • copying, storing, publishing, selling, distributing or disclosing course materials to third parties without the prior permission of UNIKA or the relevant rights holder
  • sharing instructional videos, tasks, exams, model answers, AI-generated answers or other learning platform content, or making them available to third parties, without appropriate permission
  • giving personal login details to another person, sharing an account, or transferring course access to someone else
  • using the learning platform or course materials for commercial purposes, resale or any other use that exceeds the licence granted
  • disrupting the operation of the learning platform, circumventing its technical protection measures, or any other activity that violates the security, operation or terms of the service

The above prohibitions do not limit any rights the customer has under mandatory law.

Monitoring and restriction of access

To protect the course materials and the learning platform and to prevent misuse, UNIKA may use, for example, watermarks, download limits and usage logs. Usage logs are processed in accordance with applicable data protection law and UNIKA’s privacy notice.

If the customer breaches these terms, UNIKA may restrict the customer’s access to the learning platform or suspend or terminate access, depending on the seriousness and circumstances of the breach. Terminating access without a refund requires grounds under applicable law. The customer is liable for any damage caused to UNIKA in accordance with applicable law.

Content submitted by the customer

The customer is responsible for the content of any images, videos, messages and other material they upload to the learning platform, for having the right to submit the material to UNIKA, and for ensuring that submitting and using the material does not infringe the rights of third parties.

The customer should submit material only for completing the course, practising, assessment and receiving feedback. If identifiable people appear in the material, the customer is responsible for ensuring there is a necessary legal basis and the required permissions for submitting it and for the intended processing.

UNIKA processes material submitted by the customer to deliver the course, assess practice work and give feedback, and for the other purposes described in the privacy notice. Using the material for marketing or other purposes that differ from the original purpose requires a separate appropriate basis and, where necessary, the permission of the customer or another rights holder.

Safety and practical training

The customer is responsible for carrying out the practical exercises related to the course safely, following the safety instructions given in the course, and using products and tools in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions.

The customer must find out the risks associated with using products before use and take the necessary safety measures, such as allergy tests instructed by the manufacturer for hair colours and other chemical products. The customer must stop an exercise if continuing could endanger themselves or others.

The course materials and the instructions they contain do not replace manufacturers’ instructions for use, product-specific safety instructions or professional judgement. The customer must ensure they have the skills needed to carry out the exercises and that the exercises are carried out in safe conditions.

8. Certificate, service availability and changes

Certificate: The customer receives a module certificate for each module they complete successfully. The certificate for the whole course package is awarded when all studies and tasks included in the package have been completed successfully. The certificate contains a unique verification code that can be used to confirm its authenticity at unika.fi/todistus. Awarding the certificate requires that the studies and required tasks are completed successfully within the course access period.

Service availability: UNIKA aims to ensure the continuous and uninterrupted operation of the learning platform but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability of the service. The service may be subject to temporary maintenance, update or outage breaks. Where possible, UNIKA aims to limit the inconvenience caused by breaks and to give advance notice of planned maintenance.

Devices and internet connection: The customer is responsible for having the devices, software and working internet connection needed to complete the course. The customer must also ensure that the devices and software they use are compatible with the stated technical requirements of the learning platform.

Changes to course content: UNIKA may update, develop and supplement the course content and the features of the learning platform to ensure the quality, relevance and technical functionality of the course. Changes must not materially reduce the content of the course package purchased by the customer or the agreed access during the access period.

Transfer of access and assignment of the contract: The customer’s access is personal and cannot be transferred to another person. UNIKA may transfer its rights and obligations under the contract to a third party, for example in connection with a business sale, corporate restructuring or transfer of business, provided that the transfer is carried out in accordance with applicable law and does not diminish the customer’s rights under mandatory law.

9. Complaints, limitation of liability and dispute resolution

Complaints: If the customer finds a defect in the course, the learning platform or a delivered product, they should notify UNIKA by email at info@unika.fi. Where possible, the complaint should describe the defect and how it manifests.

For consumer customers, liability for defects and complaint periods are governed by the Consumer Protection Act and other applicable mandatory law. For business customers, liability for defects and complaints are determined by applicable law, the contract and these terms. A business customer must report a defect within a reasonable time of discovering it.

Limitation of liability: UNIKA is liable for defects in the service and the course and for breaches of contract in accordance with applicable law.

UNIKA is not liable for indirect damage, such as loss of income or business interruption, to the extent that such limitation of liability is permitted by applicable law. For business customers, UNIKA’s liability for indirect damage is limited as described above, unless mandatory law provides otherwise.

For consumer customers, limitations of liability apply only to the extent permitted by consumer protection law. Nothing in these terms limits the customer’s rights under mandatory law.

Completing the course does not in itself guarantee employment, a qualification, an official competence or a particular skill level, unless this is expressly stated in the course description or separately agreed.

Force majeure: UNIKA is not liable for delays or interruptions of the service caused by an exceptional impediment beyond UNIKA’s control that UNIKA could not reasonably have foreseen or avoided. UNIKA aims to inform customers of such a situation where possible and to limit the resulting inconvenience. This clause does not remove UNIKA’s statutory obligations.

Dispute resolution: Disputes are primarily resolved through negotiation between the parties.

A consumer customer may refer the matter to the Finnish Consumer Disputes Board in cases within its competence. Before referring a matter to the Consumer Disputes Board, the consumer should usually contact consumer advisory services. More information is available at kuluttajariita.fi and kkv.fi/kuluttajaneuvonta. The Consumer Disputes Board’s decisions are recommendations.

Disputes with business customers are resolved through negotiation and, if no settlement is reached, by a competent Finnish court.

Court: Disputes are resolved by a competent Finnish court in accordance with the applicable rules on jurisdiction. A consumer customer may also bring an action before the competent district court of their own place of residence in Finland, if the applicable rules permit.

Governing law: These terms are governed by Finnish law. The choice of Finnish law does not limit the consumer’s right to mandatory consumer protection to which they would otherwise be entitled under the applicable law.
